How to Locate a Dobro Instructor

A Dobro guitar is a specific type of guitar Gibson manufactures. This guitar design came into being in 1928 from the now-defunct Dobro Manufacturing Company. The Dobro guitar had a different type of wood design than others, which gives it a slightly different sound and requires a bit of technique change. Learning to play this guitar means finding a Dobro instructor who can give quality lessons regardless of skill level.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Check out local music shops. Most music shops have listings of people in the local area who give lessons. Because guitars are such popular instruments for beginners, there are likely a number of guitarists in your area giving lessons. You may luck out and find a Dobro instructor from a local shop.
Step2
Keep your eye out at local bulletin boards. Many grocery stores and other places have public-use boards, and you may find something for guitar lessons posted there. Call to see if the person gives lessons on Dobro guitars in particular.
Step3
Put out an ad. There may be some lone music student out there or a lover of the guitar who would be willing to give lessons, even if she is not advertising openly. Putting your own ad in your local newspaper or online classifieds may connect you with someone who can help.
Step4
Look into local music programs. A good Dobro instructor may be found at your local music school. Both high school and college instructors should know people who give lessons. Find out if anyone is available in your area by calling and speaking to a music teacher.
