1. Map out a route to Monteagle, Tennessee. Plan a scenic drive down Highway 24 through the winding roads of the Smoky Mountains. Be sure to check tires for good tread as the roads can be treacherous in bad weather. Highway 41 also passes through the area, but is a 2-lane road.
2. Make reservations in advance. Monteagle, Tennessee is a tourist area and always has visitors from all over, so be sure not to rely on a room being available on short notice. There are many places to stay, including the Edgeworth Inn Bed and Breakfast, which is a Victorian era home with 12 guest rooms, or rent a rustic-looking cabin with modern comforts at the Smokehouse.
3. Pack for an outdoorsy trip. Comfortable walking shoes are imperative, even if just walking around town and shopping, but with the beautiful South Cumberland State Park, one is sure to spend a lot of time outside. Since it is a mountainous area, a light jacket is also a good idea, even in the summertime.
