Learning about black history is a large part of celebrating Black History Month. Too much of this portion of our history is left out of standardized text books and we grow up without knowing the enormous contributions blacks have made to our society, technology and education. By learning about black history as a part of Black History Month, you can educate yourself and others.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Read books about black history, in the United States and throughout the world. We may not be able to talk to Martin Luther King Jr. but we can read his words and learn about his accomplishments.
Step2
Discover why Black History Month exists and how it came to be. Having a basic understanding of why we celebrate Black History Month will help guide you on your path to learn more.
Step3
Find home school lessons that are geared toward Black history Month. Often times you will learn as much as you teach others, particularly on this subject. You might also seek out fun things to do such word games, puzzles and coloring pages to help kids learn more during this special month.
Step4
Talk with educators to get materials to help you learn more. They are the experts and can help you find some of the most interesting and unique books, stories and traditions.
Step5
Check with your local community to find out what special events are taking place as a part of Black History Month. Attend as many of those events as you can.
