California has long been known for its wine and their Pinot Noir is no different. There are many vineyards to choose from and each has their own signature Pinot Noir. Collecting California Pinot Noir isn't only enlightening, but it's also fun to travel around, wine tasting to build the collection. Use these steps to learn more about how to collect California Pinot Noir.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn what Pinot Noir is. If you are unsure of exactly what Pinot Noir is, you will need to be familiar with this fruity, spicy red wine. Pinot Noir is a classic red wine and depending on the winery can have different elements of fruit and spice.

  2. Step 2

Research California wineries. Do a little research online for California wineries that make Pinot Noir. This should be fairly easy to do and each site will give you the background of their particular Pinot Noir, so you can compare them.

  3. Step 3

Plan a trip. Make a trip out of some of the California wineries you find that produce Pinot Noir. If they are scattered about, then plan a lot of weekend trips. You should always visit the winery when you have the chance, to build a better respect for the wine and how it is produced. Attend tasting sessions and pick out your favorite bottle for your collection.

  4. Step 4

Store your wine collection properly. Wine must be stored away from light, varying temperatures, vibrations and dry air. Though many kitchens are designed with built in wine racks, this is actually one of the worst places to store wine since the kitchen has all the variables that are the enemy to wine. Consider a cellar or wine cellar cabinet.
