Nothing gets more notice than a bright smile. More and more people are seeking teeth-whitening procedures from cosmetic dentists. The results are excellent, with teeth appearing many shades brighter than before. However, once you have had your teeth whitened, you must maintain them in order to keep them as white as you desire. Here's some steps you can take to maintain your teeth after they have been whitened.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Brush your teeth after every meal with a whitening toothpaste. Many foods can stain teeth and allowing food particles to remain on your teeth can lead to discoloration.

  2. Step 2

Use a straw to drink coffee or tea. These drinks easily stain teeth and using a straw lets the liquid to bypass your teeth and helps you maintain the whiteness you achieved.

  3. Step 3

Refrain from smoking if you're a smoker and whitened your teeth. Smoking is a major cause of discoloration and continuing the habit quickly stains your whitened teeth.

  4. Step 4

Follow a professional whitening procedure with use of a home-based whitening kit. Most of these are guards filled with a whitening gel that you wear while you sleep. You can use these kits once every few weeks or months to maintain whitened teeth.

  5. Step 5

Get the whitening procedure done on a schedule your dentist sets. Teeth whitening can last a few years, but it's best to maintain the whiteness of your teeth by having the procedure repeated as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rinse your mouth after a meal if it's not possible to brush using a whitening toothpaste.
