Things You'll Need:
- Paper bag, lunch or grocery size
- Newspaper and colored tissue paper
- Stapler, hole punch and glue
- String or yarn
- Candy or small trinket toys
- Miscellaneous colorful craft items
-
Step 1
Decide if you want to make a small or larger piñata. A paper lunch sack or bag will make a small piñata, while a larger grocery-size paper bag will make a larger piñata. This may depend upon how many children will be involved in the hitting or whacking of the piñata.
-
Step 2
Fill the paper bag about 3/4 full of candy or small plastic trinket toys. Use a combination of both for a fun mix. Top off the bag with wadded up newspapers to serve as stuffing.
-
Step 3
Fold the top of the paper bag over, smooth out and staple closed. You may need to put three or four staples to secure the closure to the top of the bag.
-
Step 4
Use the hole punch to punch two holes into the area where the bag was stapled close. Run the yarn or string through the holes to make a line to hang up the piñata.
-
Step 5
Decorate the piñata bag with fringed tissue paper. Layer the colors and make long streamers if desired for a more festive look. Have fun with using any type of colorful lightweight craft items to decorate such as plastic eyes, colored pom-poms and even sequins and fake jewel stones.
-
Step 6
Let the piñata dry thoroughly. It should dry at least a couple of hours, but for best results, let it dry over night.
-
Step 7
Hang the piñata securely from the ceiling or a tree branch and let the fun begin.
