Photofacials use Intense Pulse Light with a specific range of wavelengths to treat a variety of skin problems. The light is primarily absorbed by blood supplies and melanin. These treatments also can penetrate the skin tone below the epidermis to reduce the size of pores. The following steps will show how to minimize pores with photofacials.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Use toners and astringents for a temporary reduction in pore size before considering a medical grade photofacial. An exfoliation at home also may help in some cases.
Step2
Determine your suitability for a photofacial. The best candidates will have irregular skin tone with large pores. Pore size is primarily determined genetically and your parent's skin should provide a good indication of what yours will look like as you mature.
Step3
Treat any part of the skin except for the area directly around the eyes. The Intense Pulse Light promotes new collagen growth that is used to tighten the skin and reduce the size of large pores. The maximum results may require up to six months.
Step4
Receive an average of three Intense Pulse Light treatments for enlarged pores. These sessions should be scheduled at least three to four weeks apart to allow the old skin to be sloughed off.
Step5
Expect the treated skin to appear to have minor sunburn for one to three hours. This is a desired after effect because it shows the Intense Pulse Light was at the proper intensity to stimulate healing. An aloe based lotion generally will be applied to relieve the discomfort.
