If you love the rush the track gives you while watching horse racing, try betting on a race. A long shot bet that carries a huge payout is called a "win-3" bet. Pick the winners of three races in a row, and you will win big.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get a guide for the day's races. You'll find them in the newspaper and on sale at the track. You need the data these guides contain to handicap the races. Look up each horse's performance history and learn how they perform under certain conditions.

  2. Step 2

Choose the horses and races that you will place your win-3 bet on. It's easier to pick winners in races with fewer horses, so consider that when you put your trio together.

  3. Step 3

Approach the betting window and tell the teller that you would like to play a win-3. Identify the race and horse number to win in each of race. For instance, you would say, "In the first race, number 3 to win, in the second race, number 6 to win and inthe third race, number 1 to win."

  4. Step 4

Pay the amount you would like to wager on the win-3 and receive your ticket. Always check the ticket before leaving the window.

  5. Step 5

Hang by the track and watch the horse racing. Cheer on your horses as they pound down the back stretch and race toward the finish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Since you can wager as little as $1 on a win-3 ticket, try a few different combinations. That will increase your odds of winning.
