Step 1
Ask your friends who have dog walkers. When it comes to tipping, where you live can make a huge difference. The cost of a baby-sitter is very different in Manhattan then it is in Des Moines.
-
Step 2
Determine how often you will tip them. You can tip a dog walker every time, once a week, once a month, or just at holidays. Just remember that once you begin a tip schedule, your walker may expect to receive the tip regularly.
-
Step 3
Figure the amount you'd like to tip your dog walker. If you tip once a year, a good rule of thumb is 1 to 2 weeks salary. If you tip once a month, then a percentage basis like 15 percent is a good rule of thumb. If you are tipping more frequently, then a couple of bucks is fine.

Step 4
Make sure that you continue to be satisfied with the services of your dog walker before and after you tip them. You never want the dog walker to start expecting the tip or taking it for granted. If they are constantly rescheduling, late or continually shave five minutes off your dog's walk so they can get to the next client, withhold the usual tip for a short period to see if the problem corrects itself.
