How to Ask a Cheerleader to Prom

Fads in high school come and go, but the one constant is the prom. Kids get to dress as adults and have their own very special night on the town. The problem of getting a date can be a serious task to the shy boy who finds himself thrust into the social milieu of the high school dating scene.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Form a game plan. You could ask a girl while she's standing at her locker, however, that success rate seems nil unless she already wants to go with you. You need a game plan that allows you to integrate yourself into her life a few months out. Figure out the cheerleader's likes and dislikes, where she hangs out, or who she talks to. Then decide how you can start traveling in those circles comfortably.
2. Penetrate her contact circle. It is imperative that you do this from a position of strength. Do not suddenly sit with her at lunch one day because you thought it might be a good idea. Do decide to become the mascot at one of the Basketball games and entertain the crowd in a hilarious manner. The attention is on you and allows her to observe in an indirect manner. In the first example, the attention is on the awkwardness of you crowding her comfort zone.
3. Make the initial contact. You're in the middle of getting the crowd revved up, your team is winning, and the cheerleaders are having a great time as they perform their routines. Now it's time to strike. Take $10 and buy the cheerleaders a round of soda. You are now infiltrating her circle and making contact. At which point you should receive a "thank you" from your desired cheerleader. And if she blows you off and is unimpressed, move on. There are plenty of other attractive cheerleaders to ask to prom.
4. Find out where the party is after the game. Once at the party, turn the attention more toward romance. For instance, play "suck and blow." Everyone stands in a circle, boy, girl, boy, girl. Someone sucks a card (from a card deck) and then passes it to the next person by gently blowing. If the card falls during the transfer, then that person is out. It's a way of kissing without kissing, and a great way to get next to your lovely lady.
5. Talk to her. It's been a ton of work to this point, but it will be well worth the wait. You have now (hopefully) put her in a place of feeling comfortable talking to you. She sees you're fun, nice, adventurous and therefore "kinda cool." Talk about life in general, school or classes.
6. Ask her to the prom. If you have the time, a date or two beforehand with your lovely high school cheerleader is definitely advised as you want to make sure she is fun and not a complete dud (give yourself some credit.) But if the clock is ticking, then it's time to give it a go and ask her to the prom. If she says "yes," you are hooked-up. If she says "no," do not fret because if you have followed these steps you have undoubtedly raised your social status within the hierarchy of high school and will certainly be able to get another date.

Tips & Warnings

• If you're really slick, you'll form a back-up plan on the sly. Nothing worse than going stag to the prom.
