Many programs are available to convert a video file into a Windows media file. Any Video Converter is a versatile freeware program that converts many types of video files into media files that Windows Media Player can play. It also will convert video into formats for other devices.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Open Any Video Converter by clicking on "Start" in the lower left-hand corner of the desktop screen, and then click on "All Programs" and "Any Video Converter."
Step2
Click on "Add Video Files" at the top of the screen under the menu bar to start. Find the file on your hard drive you want to convert. After the file has been added, the program displays useful information about the file and a checkbox option to unselect the file.
Step3
Select the files that you want to convert. Ensure that the correct Output Profile and Output Folder parameters are set and start the conversion.
Step4
Close Any Video Converter when the conversion is complete and return to Windows.

Tips & Warnings

  • Several options can be set in the properties window on the right side of the screen in Any Video Converter. Some of those options will disable a file, so experiment and make sure the properties are set properly before converting and distributing any files.
  • Clicking the "Shutdown When Done" checkbox will shut down the computer, not just the program.
