Some Native American legends suggest that we choose spirit guides before we are born to help us through the trials we will face in life or show us the paths we need to follow. You can tap the wisdom of these guides to improve your life.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice "hearing" simple messages. Take a quiet moment several times a day to ask simple questions. Begin by asking, "Are you there?" and other yes or no questions and allow for an intuitive response, such as pressure on the top of the head, like the crown chakra opening, or you may feel tingling on the left side of the face or body.

  2. Step 2

Continue with simple yes or no questions for a few days, until you are sure you are getting responses. Then ask your guide its name or gender. Write down or draw any words or images that enter your mind and ask if you are correct. It may take awhile to discover a guide's identity, but eventually it will come to you.

  3. Step 3

Concentrate on how the energy feels when you communicate. The energy may feel like light or darkness, male or female, human or non-human or you may have other sensations. With practice, many people discover that they have been communicating with several guides. You will soon learn to take advantage of this by drawing distinctions between each guide, so that communication with each becomes easier and more focused.

  4. Step 4

Learn the "language" of your guides and increase your communication with them every day. When you discover one guide, you are more open to discovering others. You will find that certain guides come to you during different times. Some may come only arrive in dreams, some when you need them emotionally or spiritually and others only during times of grief.
