How to Revamp a Man's Spring Wardrobe

Men are sometimes neglected when it comes to updating a wardrobe. Just as with women's wardrobes, men need to revamp theirs from time to time to reflect changing styles. Here are a few tips on revamping a man's wardrobe for spring.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cashmere sweaters
  • Light colored shirts
  • Men's fashion magazine
  • Corduroy pants
  1. Step 1

Consider adding a few cashmere sweaters. Cashmere never goes out of style. Choose classic colors for cashmere sweaters that will match anything from jeans to suits. Think Heather grays, creamy whites and dark charcoal.

  2. Step 2

Opt for khaki-colored corduroys instead of plain khaki pants. A nice pair of corduroys (not the thick cords you wore in kindergarten) with a flat front makes a nice addition to a new spring wardrobe because they are light-colored and work well with any light spring color.

  3. Step 3

Buy light-colored shirts. This applies for both work and casual clothing. Choose a classic pale blue shirt with crisp white cuffs (always a classic look) for business and an oatmeal-colored polo shirt for play.

  4. Step 4

Start a collection of high quality, thin wool sweaters. Layer these sweaters with other collared shirts for a hip, fashion-forward look at any age. Look for fine wool such as Merino.

  5. Step 5

Go for classically designed clothing like high V-neck sweaters, simple belt buckles and straight leg or boot cut jeans. Avoid flared bottom jeans, strange patterned shirts or belt buckles the size of cars.

  6. Step 6

Get a men's fashion magazine. Think Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ) and Esquire. Take note of the spring fashion trends for men and apply them to your wardrobe. You can stay away from the designer price tags, but stay within the same style of clothing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Piece your spring wardrobe together over time so it will complement other items you have in your wardrobe.
  • Stay out of stores that market toward younger men, if you are older. Trying to pull off clothing trends intended for 20-somethings when you are a mature and confident 40-something looks childish.
  • Take care of your shoes. Nothing ruins a fantastic outfit like a worn-out, unkempt pair of shoes. Shine your dress shoes and reserve your sneakers for the gym.
