day.

From Quick Guide: Class Project Ideas
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cardboard box, at least as big as a shoe box
  • Heavy construction paper in a variety of colors
  • Colored tissue paper
  • Large needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Toothpicks
  • Glue
  • Paper or plastic whales, dolphins, fish and other undersea dwellers
  • Green paper
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Buttons
  1. Step 1

Glue blue construction paper to the sides and top of the inside of the box. Glue tan or light brown construction paper to the bottom inside of the box.

  2. Step 2

Choose some undersea life for your diorama. They can be inexpensive plastic creatures or you can use your imagination to create your own out of paper, felt, plastic or any material you choose.

  3. Step 3

Create the illusion of swimming fish. Use the needle and thread to hang a few of the fish from the top of the shoe box. Just attach the thread to the top of the fish and use the needle to bring the thread to the top of the box. Tie a knot.

  4. Step 4

Create ocean plants out of colored tissue paper and make some seaweed out of green construction paper. You can make plants out of anything you like, including pipe cleaners or buttons.

  5. Step 5

Cover the outside of the ocean diorama with construction paper. You can leave it plain or decorate it any way you like.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you like, you can paint the inside of your box instead of using construction paper.
