Step 1
Purchase hiking socks made from a combination of natural, such as wool, and synthetic fibers such as acrylic. Wool will keep your feet warm and dry, won't itch and is durable. You can purchase socks that have nylon weaved into the natural fibers to help keep the shape and increase durability of the socks, or you can purchase all acrylic socks such as Thorlos. Avoid all-cotton socks since these tend to keep the foot damp.

Step 2
Buy the right size. If you can, try to find socks that are close to the size of your feet. Hiking socks do come in a range of sizes. Ask a sales associate if you can try on the socks before purchasing them to make sure they're what you want. Socks that are too small may cut off circulation on the ankles and socks that are too big invite blisters since your shoes won't fit correctly.

Step 3
Try your socks on with your hiking shoes. If your socks are too thick, your hiking shoes won't fit correctly and may cause blisters and other problems.
