You can sit in a steam room to relax your muscles and moisturize your skin. A session in a steam room may also help you sweat out toxins, and keep you immune system healthy. As you can see, there are many benefits to using a steam room.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Eat a light snack, such as a piece of fruit, before going into the steam room. If your blood sugar is low, you may become dizzy in the extreme heat. However, you also may become dizzy if you eat a large meal before entering a steam room.
Step2
Plan to stay about 15 minutes or less if you're an adult. Children can only use a steam room for a few minutes. Steam rooms are extremely hot and you will become uncomfortable if you stay longer.
Step3
Ask what you're expected to wear in the steam room. Some spas and gyms allow members to go naked in separate sex facilities, while others require you to wear towels or a bathing suit.
Step4
Drink water while in the steam room. This will keep you hydrated and help you to flush toxins from your body. Avoid alcohol before using a steam room, as this will dehydrate you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove jewelry before entering as it can burn you while in the steam room.
  • Avoid facials or waxing after visiting the steam room, as your skin may be especially sensitive.
  • Check with your care provider before using a sauna. Some medical conditions can become exacerbated in a steam room.
  • Pregnant women should not use a steam room without checking with their care provider first.
