Step 1
Figure out your axe. The Xbox 360 guitar controller for Guitar Hero III is modeled after a Gibson Les Paul. On the neck of the guitar, you will find the five fret buttons, and right in the middle of the body is the strum bar. You will also find the whammy bar at the base of the guitar, navigation buttons on the body and an Xbox Guide button so that you can easily pull up your friend's list and achievements. Note also that the guitar is wireless, so you have a battery compartment on the back.

Step 2
Take on the true guitar heroes in career mode. In career mode, you get to play through various songs to earn money and contracts. You start in a backyard concert and move up through bigger and better venues. Also new to Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on the Xbox 360 are boss fights. You get to take on true guitar heroes like Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Slash from Guns and Roses. Complete the career mode to be the ultimate guitar hero.

Step 3
Battle your friends in battle mode. Battle mode lets you compete head-to-head against other people with a variety of special attacks. Instead of star power, in battle mode you earn weapons to use against your opponent. Some of the weapons are a broken string, which will render one fret on your opponent's guitar useless until they fix it by rapidly pressing the button, "Difficulty Up", which causes a temporary increase to the next difficulty level, and "double notes," which will make the opponent play single notes as two-note chords.

Step 4
Rock out on Xbox Live. For the full online experience with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock you have to play it on the Xbox 360. Xbox Live allows you to play in co-op or battle mode with others from across the country. You must have an Xbox Live gold account in order to play Guitar Hero III online on the Xbox 360.
