Things You'll Need:
- Putter
- Balls
- Cup or target
-
Step 1
Roll the ball into the cup. Don't think or question anything. Simply take your dominant hand and roll the ball toward the cup several times. Get the feel for that fluid motion. It feels very different from facing the hole at a 90-degree angle.
-
Step 2
Grip the club. With your non-dominant hand, grip the club as if you were holding an ice pick. With your thumb resting on top of the shaft and your index finger curled around it, continue closing your fingers until you've made a fist. Then take your dominant hand and grasp the shaft of the club using your index finger and thumb as if you were grabbing a pencil. This is your grip to putt sidesaddle.
-
Step 3
Place the ball in front of you. The ball should be 5 inches in front of you and 5 inches to the side of you.
-
Step 4
Lean to the side until your dominant eye (same as your dominant hand) is over the ball. Make sure it is in line with the hole.
-
Step 5
Look at the hole. Don't think golf when it comes to this moment. Think of a basketball player making a free throw. Keep your eye on the hole.
-
Step 6
Putt the ball sidesaddle and watch it go in the hole. This method a bit unconventional. But it also may be just the thing you need to get your golf game to the next level.
