Step 1
Become a speaker. Even if you are not fond of public appearances, you can still lead a workshop, present a seminar or join a panel. From adult classes through community colleges to libraries and public groups or learning annexes, finding an audience is not that difficult. Each listener is a potential client.
-
Step 2
Offer your services for free as a prize or premium in charity events or local fundraisers. Simply offering a free session can be enough to get your name on the event’s brochures and newsletter, which means you’d be able to reach hundreds of participants.
-
Step 3
Write articles on coaching, personal improvement and problem management. If you have previous writing experience, you can try getting your articles published in traditional magazines and newspapers. Otherwise, try articles databases such as EzineArticles, where anybody can post articles and include a link to their website (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Create a newsletter full of useful information, including quizzes, articles and links. You can get a four-page newsletter printed for almost nothing at a local printer. Or consider an email newsletter for a free alternative. Collect emails and offer people the option of signing up (and then opt out if they choose to) or simply leave a stack of printed newsletters in a place where you know they will be seen.

Step 5
Spend money on professionally-printed business cards. Even if you have a very low budget, printing business cards at home just isn’t worth it. Even the best ones still look handmade and amateur.
