Ladies, we’ve all been there-- the wretched dresses, the unnecessary expenses, the bride-zilllas! Sometimes it’s just better for everyone if you can learn to finally just say no. Here are some easy steps to follow so you can keep your friend while turning down her offer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Thank your friend for offering you such a flattering responsibility.
Step2
Ask her how many maids she is planning to have. Hopefully she was not planning on having only you in the party.
Step3
Tell her it might be less stress to have a smaller party and that you might be a little too busy this year to take on this responsibility. Explain to her that you would hate to say “Yes” and then not be able to fulfill your duties.
Step4
Suggest someone else to take your place. Phrase it in a simple way such as, “Have you considered Sheila instead? I don’t think she’s ever been a bridesmaid, and I know she cares about you very much.”
Step5
Make sure to assure her that you will be at her wedding with bells on and to offer your help with a smaller responsibility such as addressing envelopes.
Step6
In future conversations, be sure to check in with her about her wedding planning here and there to let her know that although you did not want to be in the party, you still care!
