Things You'll Need:
- Bible
-
Step 1
Start each school day with a routine. Kids like routines, and it helps make the whole day run smoothly. Get kids up at the same time every morning, and put them to bed the same time each evening to help with this routine.
-
Step 2
Start each day with a Bible devotion, especially if Bible is not one of the primary subjects your child learns daily. This will help get everyone in the right frame of mind to get schoolwork done in a pleasant atmosphere.
-
Step 3
Remember that no homeschooling parent knows everything, so be sure to read lessons ahead of time, so you can prepare yourself to answer questions that your kids may have.
-
Step 4
Be available for your kids during school time. While some kids can work independently, others need that special direction from the parent. Don't assume that you can get yourself into your own project while the kids are in school. Make school a priority in your life too.
-
Step 5
End school time with a prayer, thanking God for the opportunity that you have to teach your own kids. Let everyone participate in the prayer, offering something they are thankful for learning that day.
-
Step 6
Find a homeschool support group in your area, and attend events and gatherings with your children. Moms just love it when they see a dad at their events. Don't exclude your children from opportunities to socialize just because you are afraid to be the only dad in attendance.
-
Step 7
Fathers sometimes have a tendency to judge their kids too harshly. They do this because they want the best for their kids. Being the teaching parent, you have to learn patience with your kids and have an understanding that they are learning and need you to teach them with humility.

on 4/26/2008 Working from home and homeschooling can be challenging at times, but I sure wouldn't trade either for the other. Does that make sense?
