How to Prepare a Classic British Breakfast
Even though British cuisine doesn't have the best reputation, there are a few hidden gems to be found in the average English kitchen. The classic British breakfast is one of them: a giant assortment of eggs, bacon, beans, toast and fried bread. In most areas, it's simple referred to as 'The English' and can be ordered at many pubs and restaurants. If you prefer an at-home experience, prepare your very own British breakfast the traditional way. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 to 2 fresh sausages
- 2 to 3 bacon strips
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1/2 cup Heinz baked beans
- 2 to 3 slices white toast
- 1/4 cup fresh mushrooms
- 1/2 a medium tomato
- 2 thick slices of bakery bread
- 2 to 3 tablespoons butter
- Cup of black tea
- Ketchup
- Brown sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Large plate/platter for serving
- Frying pan

Add a few tablespoons of oil the frying pan. Cook the sausages by lightly frying them in the pan until brown and juicy. Set on a plate to keep warm.

Fry the bacon strips in the same pan until crispy. Set on a plate to keep warm.

Make fried eggs in the same pan as the bacon, keeping the yolk intact. Set on a plate to keep warm.

Heat up the baked beans in a microwave or saucepan, then set on the plate.

Set the slices of toast in the toaster, then add butter immediately so it melts. Set on the plate face down to maintain the heat.

Lightly fry the mushrooms with salt and pepper to taste in the same pan as you cooked the sausage, eggs and bacon. Set on a plate to keep warm.

Cut thick slices of the tomato, then set on plate. In some regions, you also fry the tomato in the pan used for the other selections.

Cover thick bread slices with butter, then fry until golden brown, soaking up the browned bits from the sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes. Set on a plate to keep warm.

Brew a cup of black tea, and add sugar and milk to taste. Serve in a mug.

Serve your British breakfast with a side of ketchup, Brown sauce, salt, pepper and extra butter and jam for the toast.

Tips & Warnings
Brown sauce is a vinegar and fruit-based sauce available at most British supermarkets and international grocery stores.
Add potato wedges or hashbrowns for a heavier breakfast.
Coffee is never served with The English.
