Even though British cuisine doesn't have the best reputation, there are a few hidden gems to be found in the average English kitchen. The classic British breakfast is one of them: a giant assortment of eggs, bacon, beans, toast, and fried bread. In most areas, it's simple referred to as 'The English' and can be ordered at many pubs and restaurants. If you prefer an at-home experience, here's how to prepare your very own British breakfast the traditional way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 to 2 fresh sausages
  • 2 to 3 bacon strips
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup Heinz baked beans
  • 2 to 3 slices white toast
  • 1/4 cup fresh mushrooms
  • 1/2 a medium tomato
  • 2 thick slices of bakery bread (French bread is ideal)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons butter
  • Cup of black tea
  • Ketchup
  • Brown sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Large plate/platter for serving

Step1
Cook the sausages. Prepare the sausages by lightly frying in a skillet until brown and juicy. Set on plate.
Step2
Cook the bacon. Fry the bacon strips until crispy. Set on plate.
Step3
Prepare the eggs. Make fried eggs in the same pan as the bacon, but do not break the yolk. Set on plate.
Step4
Warm the baked beans. Heat up the baked beans in a microwave or saucepan, then set on plate.
Step5
Toast and butter the bread. Set the slices of toast in the toaster, then add butter immediately so it melts. Set on plate face down to maintain the heat.
Step6
Cook the mushrooms. Lightly fry the mushrooms with slat and pepper to taste, then set on plate.
Step7
Slice the tomato. Cut thick slices of the tomato, then set on plate.
Step8
Make the fried bread. Cover the thick bread slices with butter, then fry until golden brown. Set on plate.
Step9
Prepare the tea. Brew a cup of black tea, and add sugar and milk to taste. Serve in a mug.
Step10
Serve your British breakfast with a side of ketchup, Brown sauce, salt, pepper and extra butter for the toast. Enjoy!
