Wherever you get your budgie, be it a pet store, breeder, or rescue, you need to know how to choose a healthy budgie.

From Quick Guide: Budgies for Beginners
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Place to get budgie from
  • Money to buy budgie
  • A bunch of budgies to choose from
  1. Step 1

If you are getting a budgie for breeding (you must be experienced to breed them), you need to find the colour you want. If you are getting one for a pet, you should choose one with a friendly personality.

  2. Step 2

What do you want in a budgie? Noisy, male budgies are better talkers, although there is no garentee. Sweet, docile budgies are best for children and being cuddly pets. Females tend to be more aggressive than males, but every bird is different.

  3. Step 3

Watch the budgies for a long time. The best kind are active and noisy. Never choose a inactive, fluffy, quiet, bird sitting at the bottum of the cage. This means the budgie is sick. You should tell the person (pet store employee, breeder, rescue owner) about this bird.

  4. Step 4

Narrow it down to a few budgies you like. Remember, some fiery, stubborn budgies are hard and challenging to train.

  5. Step 5

Finally, choose the one you like best. Take it home and have a blast with your new pal!
