Things You'll Need:
- Seven-metal bell or other Feng Shui bell (like the ones used by Tibetan monks).
-
Step 1
Shop for the right bell at a local import store. It’s hard to find a good seven-metal bell, but you can usually locate something suitable for under $35.
-
Step 2
Choose and plan a time when no one else will be at home.
-
Step 3
Turn off all electrical appliances. Normal lighting and climate control are fine, but no TV or stereo and not while anything is cooking in the kitchen.
-
Step 4
First tidy up or clean the house (not much sense in cleansing if the basic rules of good housekeeping are being ignored).
-
Step 5
Make sure you are calm and meditative or reflective before beginning.
-
Step 6
Leave the front entrance open. If this is not practical, open a window nearest to the door.
-
Step 7
Ring the bell with smooth, fluid but deliberate strokes and allow it to resonate till the sound begins to die down. Take enough time to allow the sound to permeate the air at each corner. If you are using a single traditional bell, use smooth up and down strokes to ring it. If you are using a bell that has two equally sized gongs joined by a string that swing into each other, then practice to determine the best way to hold the string and ring the bells by lifting one of the gongs and letting it go.
-
Step 8
Start in the room farthest from the entrance. Open the closet door and ring the bell inside the closet at each corner inside the closet. Notice if the space is difficult to reach or is especially crowded or cluttered.
-
Step 9
After cleansing the closet, start at the end of the room farthest from the door and ring the bell in each corner (both floor and ceiling) and in corners created by furniture positioned against the walls. Also ring under the bed as far as you can reach.
-
Step 10
Repeat in each room in the house, working toward the entrance.
-
Step 11
In bathrooms, be sure to open the shower stall and cabinets.
-
Step 12
In the kitchen, open all cabinets and closets (no need to ring inside the oven if you are keeping it cleaned properly).
-
Step 13
After completing the cleansing, you can close the door or window near the entrance and reflect on areas of the house that were especially difficult to reach or very cluttered. Consider reorganizing those areas or removing cluttered items, especially if they are not needed or valuable.
-
Step 14
Return the bell to its case if it comes with one and place it reverently in a sacred spot such as an altar or shelf where you keep rare or valuable items.
