Which is it? Which is it?

Who is he? With whom is she leaving? Can you use these correctly, or will you be stuck confused when next you come across this choice in your writing? The answer is actually remarkably simple.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Write out your sentence the way that you think it should be written.
Step2
Decide if it refers to a he/she or a him/her. For example, "With whom did she leave the party?" refers to him. "She left the party with him."
Step3
If the sentence refers to a he/she, use who in your sentence.
Step4
If the sentence refers to a him/her, use whom in your sentence.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are writing fictional dialog, keep in mind that not all characters will speak correctly.
