Babies can go through several bibs a day. Parents need a big supply of quality, absorbent bibs on hand, yet store-bought ones can be expensive. Here is an easy way to make your own bibs at a fraction of the cost of the store-bought ones. These make wonderful baby shower gifts and will have all the guests awed by your creativity.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a baby bib in a shape you like for use as a pattern
  • 1/2 yard of soft terry cloth fabric
  • 1/2 yard of flannel
  • coordinating packaged binding
  • sew-on Velcro
  • fabric marker
  • pins

    How to Make Baby Bibs

  1. Step 1

Spread your flannel out right side down. Spread the terry cloth on top of the flannel, right side up.

  2. Step 2

Lay the ready-made baby bib on top of the double layer of fabric and carefully trace all the way around it using a fabric marker. Put the bib close to the edge of the fabric in order to save room and get as many bibs as possible from the fabric.

  3. Step 3

Lift the bib and put straight pins inside your outline to hold the 2 layers of fabric together. Carefully cut out the baby bib, being sure to cut through both layers of fabric.

  4. Step 4

Machine or hand baste the two layers of the bib together close to the edge. Sew the Velcro closures to the fastening edges of the bib.

  5. Step 5

Encase the rough edges of the baby bib all the way around with the binding and pin or baste it in place. Using a machine, neatly top stitch the binding to the bib.

Tips & Warnings
  • Embellish your baby bib if desired by adding an iron-on appliqué to the front.
  • Hand embroidery is beautiful on baby bibs. Before sewing the front and and back of the bib together, try embroidering on some roses.
