Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Step1
Attack of the killer…. Baby diaper?
Okay, they may not be deadly, but baby’s can go through as many as 6,000 diapers pre-potty training completion. Disposable diapers taking anywhere between 200 and 500 years to decompose. Do the math. It’s a lot of waste hanging around for the next few centuries. The greener choice for diapering baby is cloth diapers. These washable naps can be made from eco-friendly hemp or bamboo. Use them with an organic wool cover that is both warm and breathable, and baby’s bottom is no longer a threat to nature.
Step2
“The Clean Machine”
With all those cloth diapers piling up, you need to decide how to clean them. As increases in asthma and allergies in kids are being blamed on our obsession with anti-bacterial versions of all our cleaning products, we need to rethink our choices. Throw out eh cleaners with synthetic chemicals and use natural soap and water to wash your diapers, or make your own cleaning solutions with baking soda and vinegar.
Step3
Feed me Mommy, Feed Me
The breast or bottle question is still hotly debated, although no one will argue the health benefits of breast milk. If you are able to breastfeed, then by all means do. Use re-usable organic cotton or wool breast pads instead of the disposable ones.
Once baby starts on solid foods, it’s time to consider which food choices are best for him and the world around him. Rice cereal is your first choice, and the box packaging can be recycled, so they’re safe enough. But stop yourself when you start to reach for those handy little jars. You can make fresher versions of these foods at home, with a steamer rand your blender, so feed you little one carrots, peas and bananas that can be frozen in ice trays for future use.
