A sheet’s bend or sheet’s shank is one of the surest ways to connect 2 lines of different diameter. For the surest knot, make the loop out of the thicker line.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thick line
  • Thin line
  1. Step 1

Make a loop in the thicker of the 2 lines. Hold that loop in your left hand. Pass the working end of the second line through the loop.

  2. Step 2

Pass the working end of the second line over the short part of the loop, then up, behind the loop.

  3. Step 3

Bring the working end of the second line over the long part of the loop and under itself.

  4. Step 4

Pull on the loop and the standing end of the second rope to tighten the sheet bend.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make the knot even more secure, double loop it by repeating Steps 2 and 3 for an additional turn around the loop.
