There are few things as iconic as the Australian meat pie. The snack--as popular as the hot dog in the USA--is readily available through most bakers, corner stores, supermarkets and sidewalk vendors. The problem is, if you're an international visitor to Australia, how do you consume one of these without looking like a red neck?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A meat pie
  • Tomato sauce

Step1
Purchase a pie and the accompanying tomato sauce. Do not ask for ketchup.
Step2
Meat pie and sauce Squeeze the sauce onto the pie.
Step3
Treat the meat pie as a smaller variant of a pot pie.
Step4
Consume and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Traditional fare at most sporting events, it is best washed down by a local brew.
  • Contents of the pie will be hot. A small amount of gravy may surge on the first bite and singe your lip.
  • The actual contents of a meat pie vary, it's probably best not to ask what it's made of. You may not enjoy the answer.
