How to Make Sassy Shrimp Appetizer

Want a quick appetizer for entertaining? Instead of having cold shrimp cocktail, spice things up with this peel-and-eat shrimp recipe with a kick!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 or 2 pounds raw shrimp with the shell attached
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 4 tablespoons old bay seasoning
  • 2 quart pot
  • 3 tablespoons crushed red pepper
  • 1 tablesppon cayenne pepper
  1. Step 1

    Rinse shrimp under cold running water.

  2. Step 2

    Bring water to boil in 1 quart or 2 quart pot. Fill the water halfway in the pot.

  3. Step 3

    Place shrimp in a large bowl. Add 2 tablespoons old bay seasoning, 1 1/2 tablespoons crushed red pepper, 1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper to shrimp.

  4. Step 4

    Using your hands, mix the seasonings into the shrimp by massaging them around and making sure all of the shrimp get seasoned.

  5. Step 5

    Let shrimp stand for 2 minutes.

  6. Step 6

    Add shrimp to boiling water and add bay leaves to water.

  7. Step 7

    Let water return to boiling.

  8. Step 8

    If mixture starts to boil over, turn the heat down to medium heat.

  9. Step 9

    Cook shrimp for 5 to 7 minutes.

  10. Step 10

    Remove from water. Add remaining seasonings (seasonings you measured out in Step 3) and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure shrimp are thawed before cooking.
  • Depending on how spicy or not spicy you want the shrimp to be, you can vary on the amount of crushed red and cayenne pepper.
  • A cup of lemon juice adds more flavor.
  • This can be served with beer or white wine.
  • Keep shrimp refrigerated until ready to cook.
