Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- new wire, screw driver, wire cutter/strippers, and electrical tape.
Step1
lamp socket w/sleeve
First remove the bulb assembly insert that is seated inside the housing where the bulb screws into, this is done by removing the screws at the base of the insert.
Step2
Gently twist and pull the insert out of the housing feed the cord up as you pull the insert out.
Step3
After pulling the insert out you will see the wires attached to the insert by way of slotted screws. Loosen the screws about a turn and a half and remove the wires from the insert. Pull the wire out through the base of the lamp. You may want to tie a string to the wire that was attached to the insert so when you replace the wire it will be easier to insert the new wire through the tube.
Step4
Strip the ends of the wire approximately an inch and rap the bare ends around the screws that you loosened to remove the old wire. If there was a cardboard protector around the insert you can reuse it, if not rap the exposed wires with electrical tape.
Step5
Install the insert back into the housing and reinstall the screws

on 12/21/2007 This is very informational and a great way to save a few bucks. Plus I don't have to get rid of the lamp I love.
