Great tasting hummus takes only minutes to make, and it isn't loaded with the chemicals and preservatives that a lot of prepared store hummus contain.

From Quick Guide: Spreads
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Food processor
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 can of chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
  • 1 tablespoon tahini (sesame paste)
  • 1/8 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Dash of cayenne pepper
  • Parsley for garnishing
  • Water as needed to thin the mixture
  1. Step 1

Add garlic to the food processor first, chop until finely minced. Make sure you do this first or else you could end up with too large chunks in your hummus!

  2. Step 2

Add the chickpeas and lemon juice to the processor and begin to chop until the mixture is a smooth paste. You may need to add a small amount of water to dilute the hummus to your liking.

  3. Step 3

Add the remaining ingredients, and process until the mixture is the right consistency.

  4. Step 4

Place hummus into a bowl, sprinkle with paprika, and garnish with parsley. That's it!

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled to make larger batches. Just make sure you increase your spices and lemon juice accordingly or your hummus can end up bland.
  • Feel free to add personal favorites to the mix, such as peppers, olives or extra garlic.
  • Makes a great dip for veggies, and it is great in pita bread sandwiches!
