Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Food processor
  • Cutting board
  • A good kitchen knife
  • 1 large onion (peeled)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 jalapeno pepper (cored and seeds removed)
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Hot sauce (optional)
  1. Step 1

First, cut the outer layer from the onion and cut into quarters. This will allow you to place it into the food processor easily.

  2. Step 2

Cut the jalapeno pepper in half and remove the core and seeds. If you like extremely hot salsa, leave a few seeds in, but the first go around, you should discard all of the seeds.

  3. Step 3

Peel the outer skin from garlic cloves. You may use more than one clove--if you like garlic, 3 to 4 cloves are great!

  4. Step 4

Turn the food processor on, and with blade running, drop in the onion quarters, garlic and pepper. Keep chopping the mixture until it is finely mined.

  5. Step 5

Stop the processor, and add tomatoes, cumin, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper. Use the pulse setting and chop mixture until it is the consistency you want.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pre-measure all of the spices, cilantro and lime juice to save time.
  • Add hot sauce or another pepper if you like a bolder taste.
  • Don't skimp on the cilantro! The cilantro that really adds fresh flavor.
  • Be sure to remove the core and seeds from the pepper or you will pay!
  • Make sure you use the pulse setting when chopping the tomatoes or you will have soup!
