How to Get a Wikipedia Account

So you have used those articles time after time in the Wikipedia and you are ready to make some entries of your own. This is the step by step process to setting up your own account.

Things You’ll Need:

• unique username
• password
• internet
• email address optional

1. Jump on the computer and go to any wiki web address. When on the main page after you have chosen your language there should be a link in the upper right corner with a little icon of a person and the words sign in/create an account. By clicking this link it will take you to a login screen. If you can not find this then use a search engine to get you to the right page. Type in wiki and login.
2. Right above the place where you would enter your user name there is another link that states…Don’t have an account? Create one. Click this link. This will give you a disclaimer screen that describes the additions that you make to the wikipedia are permanently recorded under your user name. There is also an image that you must type in the password to stop automated accounts from being created.
3. Enter the letters/numbers in the image. Pick a username and password and type these into the boxes below. Confirm your password again by retyping it. This is all on the same screen. Enter your email which is optional but allows people to email you about your contributions. Then click “create account”.
4. If all goes well you should be logged in and ready to contribute. Otherwise you may need to pick a different username if the one you chose is already in use. Or you may need to type your password in if it does not match the first time. Other issues you may run into are the verification word is not typed in correctly and if you can not read it there is an option of having the admin for the website create your account for you.

• Pick a unique username that will stand out and more then likely it will not already be in use.
• Take your time filling out the form to avoid typos.
• Additions that you make to the wikipedia are permanently recorded under your user name.
