Things You'll Need:
- Hair Dryer with a "cool" air setting
- A thick, high zinc-oxide content diaper rash cream such as Desitin Original
- Lots of diapers
- Wipes, rinsed with warm water
- Baking Soda
- Infant Bath Seat (optional)
- Water/bath tub
-
Step 1
Mix two tablespoons baking soda with enough warm water in bathtub or infant bath seat to cover baby's diaper area. Let your baby soak in this mixture for 10-15 minutes three times daily. Do not use baby wash as this could be contributing to his or her rash.
-
Step 2
Promptly remove your baby's soiled diapers. Gently dab diaper area clean with rinsed wipe. Do not wipe as that can further irritate the rash.
-
Step 3
Use hair dryer on a low, cool setting to completely dry diaper area. Be sure to dry areas where moisture tends to gather.
-
Step 4
Once or twice a day at this step, let your baby's diaper area "air out." You can let him or her play diaperless on a towel or a "pee pad" (you can purchase these at most drug stores) for about 15-30 minutes.
-
Step 5
Once baby's diaper area is completely dry, apply a thick layer of diaper rash cream to entire diaper area. Secure a fresh diaper.
