Have you ever needed to take your own measurements, but lacked a measuring tape? Whether you're altering clothes or starting an exercise program, accurate measurements make the job go better. Luckily, you can use stuff around the house to get accurate measurements.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • String, yarn or a long scarf
  • Yardstick or tape measure
  • Mirror
  • Paper
  • Pen

Step1
Stand in front of a mirror. Decide what, specifically, you want to measure.
Step2
Take the string, yarn or long scarf. Wrap it around the part of your body you want to measure. For example, if you are measuring your upper arm, take the string, and starting with one end, gently wrap it around the widest part of your upper arm.
Step3
Put your finger at the point where the string crosses itself.
Step4
Measure the string from the place where your finger is until the end that you started with, using the yardstick or tape measure.
Step5
Wrtite Down Your Measurement Write down your measurement.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take your time and check the position of the string in the mirror.
  • Make sure the string follows your body closely, not too loose, and not too tight.
  • Wrap the string gently around yourself. You're not forming a tourniquet here!
