You and I are not identical. We each have a unique personality. We have our likes, dislikes, joys and fears. We know what we are passionate about and what sets us off. We all react to milestones in life differently and sometimes need guidance on how to handle them. That's why being mentored can help equip us for the challenges life throws our way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Person in mind
  • Goal to accomplish
  • Established length of time

Step1
As kids, many of us have been encouraged to seek out a role model or hero to emulate. Often times they were celebrities or sport stars. Sometimes big wigs in well-to-do companies or government officials caught our fancy. Though it's great to admire celebrities and those in charge of our economy, did you ever give thought to the common man?

Hardworking, honest, dependable people are worth admiring too. They might not be in the spotlight, but their integrity and capability to handle every day situations make them admirable in their own right. Is there someone in your life whose characteristics you wish to glean? Is there a man or woman in your community who has endured a similar situation and came out on top? If so, this is the type of person you should seek out.
Step2
If you are facing a divorce, raising a teenager or losing a loved one, it's helpful to call upon those who have dealt with similar situations. Consider approaching someone you feel you can trust and can provide insight on how to cope with hardship. Ask if they'd be willing to get together to talk about what you are facing in life. Having an objective voice helps make the road a little easier to travel.
Step3
Once you and your mentor decide to get together, talk about the possibility of others sessions of how to be mentored. Have a goal in mind and seek to establish a time frame to conquer some of these difficulties. Read a book together relating on your current situation, meeting weekly to discuss and apply steps to dealing with these dilemmas. The more help you receive from your mentor, the better equipped you can become to deal with these difficulties.
