When a woman's body houses twins, the abdominal cavity soon becomes full with the fetus'. In order to allow for additional baby growth, the stomach moves upwards toward the throat. This movement can cause extreme acid reflux. Preventing this acid reflux will make a twin pregnancy more comfortable to live with.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Head Pillows
  • Body Pillows
  • Large Comfortable Blankets
  • Husband Pillow
  • Bland Foods
  • Chewable Antacid

Step1
Reduce stomach acids. Stomach acids are used to digest the foods we eat. Eating a bland diet will help to reduce the amount of acid needed by the stomach for digestion.
Step2
Calm an overactive stomach. If you do feel a bit of a rumble in your tummy, try chewing on a few chewable antacids. There are several brands that are safe during pregnancy.
Step3
Prop yourself up. When sleeping at night, especially toward the end of the pregnancy when the stomach is tiny at best, prop yourself up on all sides with pillows. Lying down will only give the stomach acids a place to go, up and out of your throat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Propping the body up during sleep prevents acid from entering the throat.
  • When the twins kick, the acids are more noticeable.
  • Never place pressure on the stomach during sleeping.
