Things You'll Need:
- Old Driver's License or State Issued Identification Card
- Proof of Social Security Number
- Proof of Identity
- Proof of Name Change
-
Step 1
Get there early. The most important thing to learn about being a Las Vegas resident is that everything is busy all of the time. Las Vegas is a 24 hour city and people flock to the DMV very early in the morning, so get there at least 30 minutes before the doors open.
-
Step 2
Gather your documents. In Las Vegas, the documents needed to apply for a state driver's license are clearly laid out. You will need to surrender your old license, prove your Social Security number and present verification of who you are. Your, now, out of state identification or driver's license can not be used to prove your identity.
-
Step 3
Bring extra proof. It is always better to have more identification rather than less. Your birth certificate is an optional piece of identification, but one that will make the process of obtaining a license in Las Vegas all the easier.
-
Step 4
Name changes are tough. For women or men who have experienced a name change, either through marriage, dissolution of marriage or other name changing life event, you will need to be able to prove how your name moved from your birth certificate or given name to the name you currently have.
-
Step 5
Provide additional information on name changes. There is a tricky part to the name change scenario. If a woman was married (name change from maiden to married) then was divorced but kept her married name and remarried (name change from old marriage to new marriage), she will need to prove how she moved from her birth name to her current name. This means having a marriage certificate (1st marriage), divorce decree (1st marriage) and marriage certificate (2nd marriage) all in order before obtaining a Las Vegas driver's license.
