How to Write a Writer's Query

Do you have a novel just sitting on your computer, but are not sure how to go about getting it to a publisher? Well, first you need to find a literary agent. To get your novel noticed by a literary agent you will need to do something called a "Writer's Query." Here is an easy to follow guide to getting it done.

Things You'll Need:

• Your computer
• Copy of your novel, either on your computer or printed out

1. Write a summary of your novel. Think about what you would like to see on the back of a book, or on the book jacket.

2. Go through your main characters in your novel and write a summary of each character.

3. Summarize the setting. If it takes place in multiple places, describe the main areas.

4. Go through each chapter, if it has a name, give the name and then summarize in a paragraph what happens in that chapter. If you're writer's query is not over ten pages, then rethink your writer's query.

5. Edit and send out your writer's query to potential literary agents.
