College students and starving artists know that Ramen Noodles are often a staple in everyone's cabinets, to the point that they become annoying. You can get a little creative with them, mixing them with anything else you can find in the way of canned and frozen vegetables. Let's assume however, that you want to eat ramen right now as part of a full meal. Here are a few steps to have fun with them.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 packet of chicken ramen noodles (will serve two)
  • 1 can of sweet peas
  • 1 sweet onion
  • peanut oil
  • chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • A wok with its utensils
  1. Step 1

Cook your ramen noodles according to instructions. Strain them, then leave them off to the side. Drain your peas, chop your onions; cut your chicken breast into medium length strips.

  2. Step 2

Heat your wok up. Place a bit of peanut oil on the bottom (4 to 5 tablespoons) and empty the silver flavor packet into the oil, using a wooden fork or spoon to stir the oil and flavor packet together until smooth.

  3. Step 3

Add your chicken and onion first. When the chicken is almost done, add your noodles. Toss frequently, to be sure that everything is heated evenly and that everything gets coated with flavor as it stir-fries.

  4. Step 4

Add the peas last. Continue to stir and toss frequently another 3 to 5 minutes. Turn off the flame and top with carrot shavings. Toss a couple of times and serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add some shaved Parmigiano or Asiago cheese after plated.
  • Serve with salad and dinner rolls. This is a main course kind of dish.
  • You can substitute the chicken breast with shrimp, but be sure to switch ramen noodle flavors as well.

on 9/27/2008 I love that you added "worthwhile" to the title of your article. I used to get suggestions for working wit Ramen, and not one of them (someone actually suggested adding ketchup so that it was more like spaghetti...ugh!) was worthwhile, so thanks for one that finally makes sense and didn't make me want to gag from hearing it :-)

on 12/9/2007 When I was a starving artist, we ate Rice-A-Roni or Kraft Mac 'n Cheese! LOL But, ramen is very good when you 'dress' it up a bit! I like mine with collard greens, bean sprouts and fresh sweet peas! This is a good article, thanks!
