Almost any document can be made more interesting by adding graphics. Microsoft Word has a huge variety of graphics available. You can import Clip Art or Word Art, as a graphic, into PageMaker, and use it enhance your document.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A computer with Microsoft Word and Adobe PageMaker

Step1
Open Adobe PageMaker. Open Microsoft Word. Right click on your task bar, and click on "Tile Windows Vertically." Both programs should be open next to each other on your screen.
Step2
Open a new document in PageMaker.
Step3
Open a new document in Word. This will be your palette for selecting images. On the top menu, click on "View" "Toolbars" "Picture." Now, click on "Insert" "Picture" "Clip Art."
Step4
This will open a sidebar. At the top is a search box. Enter a word for whatever type of Clip Art you want to find. Below that, you want to "Search in: All collections" unless you have a specific folder you want to look in. Now, just click on search.
Step5
You are presented with a selection of graphics. Now, just start clicking on the ones you like. If you don't like them when you see them full-size, just click on them and hit the delete key.
Step6
When you find an object you want to use, left-click to select it. On the Picture Tool Bar, click on "Text Wrapping" which looks like a little dog surrounded by lines. This will open a drop box with eight choices. It doesn't matter which one you choose, just click on one of them!
Step7
This will change your image. There will be eight small circles surrounding it, with one green circle at the top. That means Text Wrapping is active.

All you need to do now is click and drag. Your PageMaker window is right next to your Word window. Click on your graphic and drag it to the PageMaker window. Alternately, you can right click on your graphic, select "Copy," then right click on your PageMaker window and select "Paste."
Step8
That's all there is to it!

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use the same technique for text. Just select Word Art instead of Clip Art, use the Word Art menu to manipulate your text, then follow the rest of the steps.
  • This also works for taking images from Word into PaintShopPro.
  • Make sure that your graphics are copyright free, or public domain.
  • If they aren't, make sure you get permission for use, and give credit where credit is due!
