Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Different colors look well on different people. Experiment with a semipermanent color that washes out after so many shampoos. That way if you don't like a specific color you aren't stuck with it for the long haul. Try many different shades to find the perfect one.
Step2
Never take what the pictures on the hair dye box as total truth. They never give you the color they show. The color you get is based a lot on your natural hair color.
Step3
Look for colors that compliment your skin tone unless you are going for a dramatic look.
Step4
If you feel to overwhelmed with all the home coloring options available then do not hesitate to seek professional help. A good beautician will know exactly what to do and can suggest color options you never thought would look good.

on 2/19/2008 Good article. However, I have never attempted to dye my hair. I get so many compliments on my hair, I don't feel like I need to change it.

on 12/2/2007 Thanx for this one. I once tried to dye my hair with blonde highlights, and ended up with red ones instead. I learned from that mistake, for sure.
