Here are easy steps to making these sweet cookies that your kids will demand at their next tea party!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsps baking powder
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, cream the shortening, butter, and sugar.

  2. Step 2

Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Add more milk if necessary, a tablespoon at a time. It may be the long way around, but you'll be able to come up with the doughy consistency you need without having to start over if you pour too much.

  3. Step 3

Roll your dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness on a well floured surface. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes, or just use the rim of a glass for round shapes.

  4. Step 4

Put cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown and the edges are set. Of course, remove from cookie sheet and place on rocks to cool properly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Top the cookies with shaved almonds before baking.
  • Add a bit of orange zest before baking to add some extra flavor.
