Some guitars look the same, and well they pretty much can sound the same, but not all guitars are the same! Like a human being guitars are picky when it comes to the strings you put on them. Some guitars just don't sound good unless they have the right strings on.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to a music store after buying your first acoustic guitar. Talk to the clerk about guitar strings and pick out three to five different types of strings. This can be expensive, but it will be worth it in the end.

  2. Step 2

Go home and put on the first set of guitar strings. Tune the guitar and play on those strings for at least a week to two weeks.

  3. Step 3

Do this every week and switch to a different set of strings.

  4. Step 4

At the end of the three to five weeks, pick which strings sounded the best to you and which felt the best for you to play with. These are the strings you should go buy and use for a month or two and then you should make the final decision if those are the strings you want to use!

on 8/11/2008 35 years of playing several guitars has taught me to buy strings recomended by the maker. Word of caution never put steel strings on a classical guitar!
