Use a couch to choose a couch

When you buy a new couch, you want to make sure it lasts and that it's comfortable. Test a couch in the store before buying it to make sure it's the one you want.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lack of self-consciousness
  1. Step 1

Pull on the arm of the couch to make sure it doesn't move or creak.

  2. Step 2

Pick up the frame of the couch to make sure it feels sturdy and heavy.

  3. Step 3

Curl up, lay down, or sit on the couch just as you do at home to make sure it's comfortable.

  4. Step 4

Sit on one end of the couch and have someone else sit down at the other end to make sure you don't feel the impact of someone else sitting down.

  5. Step 5

Try to snag a thread with your fingernail if the fabric is raised.

  6. Step 6

Rub your fingernail along the fabric to make sure the pile doesn't wear and the color doesn't fade.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the warranty to make sure it covers stains as well as durability.
  • If you hold the fabric up to a light and you can see through it, don't buy a couch made with that fabric. Thin fabrics shouldn't be used on couches.
