How to Make Homemade Dog Treats

Please don’t hold it against them if your dogs can’t stop begging for these tasty, healthy homemade dog treats. Made with basic ingredients you can find in just about any grocery store, this homemade dog treat recipe is easy for you to make and easy for them to love.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp. flaxseed meal (optional)
  • 2 tbsp. molasses
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 boiled potato, mashed
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 275 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Mix flour, oatmeal and flaxseed oil in large mixing bowl.

  3. Step 3

    Stir molasses into water until dissolved in a separate bowl. Add mashed potato. Whisk or beat until smooth.

  4. Step 4

    Combine all ingredients into firm dough. Spoon out onto greased and floured cookie sheet. Flatten dough balls with fork or spoon.

  5. Step 5

    Cook for 2 to 3 hours or until hardened.

  6. Step 6

    Let cool and serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Makes 2 to 3 dozen homemade dog treats.
  • For variations on this recipe, try adding unsalted peanut butter, but only if your dog is not allergic to nuts. Fresh chopped mint also works well.
