The following steps will walk you through creating a hyperlink on your website through the Joomla! Content Management interface. This will allow a visitor to your site to click on a word or group of words and be forwarded to another web page within your website or on another website. Hyperlinks have many uses such as launching pages that are not accessible through your standard menu or linking to mapping sites for driving directions. Read on to learn more.

A login ID and password with appropriate privelages to the Joomla! website

How To Create A Hyperlink In Joomla!

Click on Content Items Manager.

Click on the title of the content to which you want to add a hyperlink.

Click in the content area and either type new text for the the link or highlight existing text to be linked.

Click on the "Insert/Edit Link" button on the toolbar just above the text box. The button looks like a chain. The "Insert/Edit Link" window will appear.

In the "Insert/Edit Link" window in the field labeled "Link URL," type the address of the web page to which you wish to link. For example: www.beverlygriffith.com/profile.

In the "Insert/Edit Link" window in the field labeled "Target" choose from the drop down list how you want the linked window to display.

Click the Insert button at the bottom left of the Insert/Edit Link window.

Click the "Save" button at the top right of the Joomla! window.

Tips & Warnings

I suggest using the "Open in new window (_blank)" option if your link will send the visitor to another website. This helps prevent them from navigating away from your site but still allows them to view the additional information.
