How to Open a Wikipedia Account

Wikipedia does not require anyone to be logged in to access information on their website. Almost anyone can edit any article at any given time. There's need to log in. In fact, many long-time contributors don't log in. But, creating an account is quick and free. In addition to being non-intrusive. Overall, it is considered a good idea.

  1. Step 1

    Go to the Wikipedia website, www.wikipedia.org and click on "create an account." Once on this page you will have to "sign in."

  2. Step 2

    Signing in means, you will have choose a user name and password and then enter a code word to get to the next step of creating your account. These code words are called Captcha and are a way to protect against SPAM. After typing the Captcha, you enter your username, password and an email address. A confirmation will be sent to your email once you have done this.

  3. Step 3

    The confirmation code that was sent to your e-mail address is not required to log in, but it will be needed before using any e-mail-based features wikipedia.org.
