So you just bought yourself a new computer and want to transfer the data from the old to the new. There are several ways you can go about copying data from one computer to another computer

  • Network cabable computer
  1. Step 1

    The Floppy Transfer. This should be done if you only have a few files to copy. This data transfer is by far the easiet way of copying the files to a floppy diskette and transferring them to another computer. But, for copying large amounts of data from one computer to another, you should try an alternate solution.

  2. Step 2

    The CD Transfer. In today's technology savy world and the increased popularity of CD burners and recordable drives, you can copy the files you wish to move from the computer to a CD-R disc, as long as the computer that you wish to copy the files from has a CD recordable drive. For users who already have this type of drive installed in their computer and CD-Rs this is an easy solution because CD-R discs can hold much more data than a floppy diskette.

    Networking Data. If you have a network setup or plan on setting up a network you should definitely consider transferring and sharing data files on the local area network. This is the fastest means of transferring files between computers, and once setup will enable to you to continue to share files.

    The USB Transfer. USB ports and devices are becoming increasingly popular, so users can transfer files from one computer to another computer by using a variety USB options.

    External USB Transfer. If you have external USB drives such as an, external USB hard disk drives information can easily be transferred to the USB hard disk drive and then connected to another computer to transfer data. This solution enables you to make quick backups of the data as well as have the ability to quickly and easily transfer information from one computer to another.

  6. Step 6

    USB Port. Having USB on both computers can network the computers using USB to USB. This solution can be easier to setup than a standard Ethernet network and enables you to transfer large amounts of data between computers. USB to USB connectors can be purchased at most major computer retail stores.
